Rivera, Soul of the Yankees

Mariano Rivera has had an incomparable career as New York Yankees closer. The 12-time All-Star faces life-changing circumstances.

At 42 he is named the most successful closer of all time. Thursday night he suffered a torn ACL and a torn meniscus in his right knee after he fell awkwardly to the ground while shagging a fly ball during batting practice before the Yankees’ game with the Kansas City Royals.

An injury that may have ended his career, Rivera told reporters that he was “Going to have to face this first. It all depends on how the rehab is going to happen, and from there, we’ll see.”

Rivera, baseball’s career saves leader with 608 in his 18-year career, has hinted this will be his last season. He is 1-1 with five saves and a 2.16 ERA in nine appearances this season.

We wish you well Mo and a speedy recovery!

Philip Humber throws 21st perfect game in MLB history

Humber threw the first perfect game in the majors in almost two years, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 4-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday.

At 29 years of age he pulled it off. He wasn’t a household name but after a long road and overcoming an injury at the beginning of his career, Humber ended Saturday with a perfect game.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Humber said. “I don’t know what Philip Humber is doing in this list. No idea what my name is doing there, but I’m thankful it’s there.”

Well done Philip!
